How is Volumetric Weight Calculated?
The formula to calculate Volumetric Weight is:
Length (cm) × Width (cm) × Height (cm) ÷ 5000
This formula ensures that lighter, bulky packages are priced proportionately to the space they occupy. The divisor (5000) may vary depending on the carrier and mode of transport.
Why is Volumetric Weight Important?
Volumetric Weight helps carriers optimize space utilization and manage logistics more efficiently. It ensures fairness in pricing by reflecting the actual cost of transporting a package, especially for lightweight but bulky shipments.
For instance, a large box filled with lightweight items may weigh only a few kilograms but occupy significant space in a shipping vehicle. Charging solely by the actual weight would not account for the operational cost of transporting such a package.
